Discussion:
no "on behalf of" me in my reply to mailing list

I use mutt + msmtp to send email. But I find when I reply an email from
mailing list, others in the mailing list will not see my email address
like "on behalf of ***@linux.intel.com" in the received email. If
I only send email to an individual, the email head is correct with my
email address display. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Henry

I think it also happens when I reply this email to mutt-***@mutt.org
mailing list. There is no my email address displayed in the "From" field.

Henry

Thank you for the reply! So sounds it's my email client's problem which
can't show email header correctly? I can see you email address but can't
see my address displayed in my reply. Instead,
mutt-users-***@mutt.org is showed.

Your post shows here as:

From mutt-users-***@mutt.org Tue Jul 24 17:42:50 2018
From: Hang Yuan <***@linux.intel.com>

My header weeding settings are:

ignore *
unignore In-reply-to References Reply-To cc To From Organization Date Subject
hdr_order In-reply-to References Reply-To cc To From Organization Date Subject

I.e. Remove all headers, then add back those desired. It is enough to
give me both From headers.

Is it possible that your problem lies in that area?

Thank you! I will try your suggestion, though I understand it will not
solve the problem that my colleagues can't see my address in my reply
and my outlook client can't as well.

I also see your address in the From header correctly, like Erik.

Maybe _both_ mutt and Outlook at your site need to be configured to
display the header, even if it is different from the envelope sender?

Some mailing lists (in particular installations of mailman) rewrite the
"From" header in order to avoid bounces of messages submitted to the
list from a domain with a strict DMARC policy. Some lists _only_ do it
for such senders, but other lists do it for all senders. I'm too
lazy/tired right now to look up your domain's policy, so I don't know
which case it falls into, but I'm quite sure this is the general phenom
you are seeing.

Thank you for the answer! So I understand all email accounts in the same
domain will have the same phenomena, right? But the strange thing is
that sounds like only I have the problem.

For example, when others reply an email to mailing list, people will see
"From: ***@linux.intel.com" in mutt or "From:
<example-***@example.mailinglist.org> on behalf of
***@linux.intel.com" in outlook email client.

But they will only see "From: example-***@example.mailinglist.org" in
my reply in both email clients. So I suspect if anything wrong in my
email configuration instead of a general phenomena?
